Vermont Clover Opens Inaugural Campaign on the Road Against Maine Legends FC

BURLINGTON — Vermont Clover FC opens its inaugural campaign on the road this Saturday, April 4th, traveling to Auburn, Maine to face Maine Legends FC at Edward Little High School.

After weeks of preparation, the group steps into its first competitive match with a clear objective: carry its work from the training ground into a performance that reflects who they are.

The Clover enter the weekend following a pair of friendlies against Saint Michael’s College in March, where head coach Brian Buczek saw the group begin to settle into its attacking rhythm, connecting passes and finding space in behind with greater consistency.

“We started to really put some passes together offensively and find those attacking players getting in behind,” Buczek said. “I felt like that momentum carried us into the weekend quite positively.”

Recent sessions have centered on defensive organization, with an emphasis on communication, accountability, and maintaining a connected shape as the group continues to grow into its identity.

“This was a really great session working with our defenders,” Buczek said after Wednesday night’s practice. “Trying to define our team shape and our individual responsibility.”

Saturday presents an unfamiliar opponent, with limited insight available on Maine Legends FC. For the Clover the approach remains unchanged: stay true to its principles, defend as a unit, and dictate the game through its intensity.

“We’ve just got to go up there and defend very well, play our game with a high intensity,” Buczek said. “Pressure them high and see if we can get some goals early.”

Opening away from home offers a different kind of setting, one Buczek believes allows the group to settle into the match without distraction.

As the Clover takes the field for the first time, the focus isn’t on the occasion, but execution. After months of preparation both behind the scenes and on the pitch, the Clover will hope to put forth a performance that reflects the standards of the club and the community behind it.
