COLCHESTER In front of a lively home crowd at Duffy Field, Vermont Clover FC delivered a complete performance in their home opener, combining attacking precision with defensive dominance to secure an emphatic victory.

With 405 supporters lining the touchlines, the atmosphere provided a jolt of energy from the opening whistle, and the Clover responded in kind.

Vermont wasted little time asserting control, finding rhythm early and turning possession into chances.

The opening goal arrived in the 17th minute. A long ball forward from Clifford was cushioned perfectly by Milo Schmidt, who slipped a composed pass into the path of Oliver Nigro. The striker made no mistake, finishing clinically to give the Clover a 1-0 lead and mark his third goal in two games.

Just four minutes later, the advantage doubled. In the 21st minute, Miles Bergeson delivered a wonderfully weighted free kick into the box, where Henry Gibson ran unmarked and nodded home from close range to make it 2-0.

Despite continued pressure and a number of half chances, Vermont went into halftime holding a 2-0 lead.

The breakthrough finally came again in the 62nd minute after a flurry of early second-half chances. Bergeson once again played provider, whipping a dangerous cross into the area. Captain Michael O’Connor controlled in the box under pressure and, improvising quickly, volleyed the ball into the bottom corner to extend the lead to 3-0.

The final goal of the afternoon came in the 76th minute. Another long ball forward from Clifford sparked the move, with second-half substitutes Jacques Alfani and Matteo Paganini combining to seal the result. Alfani raced onto the pass before unselfishly squaring it across goal for Paganini to tap into an open net, making it 4-0.

While the attack delivered throughout the match, the foundation of the performance was a disciplined and commanding defensive effort. Vermont limited chances across all phases, and goalkeeper Lute Lillo recorded a clean sheet behind a back line that rarely looked threatened.

The result marked not only a strong start at home, but a statement performance in front of the 405 fans at Duffy Field, one that reflected both cohesion and confidence early in the season.

Vermont Clover FC now turn their attention to another home test, hosting Dorchester City FC at Duffy Field with kickoff set for 7:30 p.m. Dorchester arrives in strong form after a dominant 4-0 away win over New England Combine FC, setting the stage for another high-level matchup under the lights.
